New Delhi: On Sunday, March 12, 2023, Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP KS Eshwarappa sparked controversy after asking if Allah would solely hearken to prayers if loudspeakers have been used throughout Azaan. Speaking at a rally as a part of the BJP’s ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ in Karnataka, which is linked to the polls, Eshwarappa, who has additionally served as Deputy Chief Minister, known as Azaan “evil of head”.

“Wherever I go, this (Azaan) gives me a headache,” Eshwarappa mentioned after a name to prayer from a close-by mosque.

“In the temples, girls and women offer prayers and bhajans. We are religious, but we don’t use loudspeakers. If you have to call for prayer using loudspeakers, it means that Allah is deaf,” the BJP chief added.

“If there is a country that saves religion, it is only India,” he mentioned.

Earlier final week, Muslim organizations in Chikkamagaluru of Karnataka submitted a memorandum to District Commissioner and BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi permitting them to make use of loudspeakers for early morning Azaan through the interval of Ramzan.

Muslim organizations have demanded that they be allowed to make use of loudspeakers between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. as a backdrop to the beginning of the Ramzan pageant from March 22.

Using loudspeakers for early morning Azaan is banned within the state following final 12 months’s unrest.
