Eknath Shinde, Prime Minister of Maharashtra wished former prime minister and celebration chief of Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray, on his birthday at the moment (July 27).
The Maharashtra CM tweeted: “Happy Birthday to the Venerable Shri Uddhavji Thackeray, Former Prime Minister of Maharashtra. Pray at the feet of Mother Jagdamba that you may have a long and healthy life.”
However, Shinde avoided calling party leader Uddhav Shiv Sena in his tweet. Instead, he only mentioned him as a former prime minister, which raised many eyebrows.
This comes a day after Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the Eknath Shinde faction in his interview with Sanjay Raut, MP and editor-in-chief of Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana. Uddhav claimed that a coup was planned against him as he was struggling with a prolonged illness in hospital and had given responsibility to the party’s deputy.
Amid political disputes, Maharashtra CM’s tweet is also seen as a message to Uddhav Thackeray that the Shinde faction is ready to take control of Shiv Sena. While the Supreme Court has yet to hear a number of pleas from both factions on August 1, 2022 regarding the exclusion of MLAs and the merger of a group related to anti-defect rules. The Electoral Commission of India has also subpoenaed both groups to prove their claim to the party on August 8, 2022.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackey faction has submitted a petition to the Supreme Court calling for the pending proceedings in the Electoral Commission to be suspended. The Supreme Court will hear the matter along with other petitions on August 1. The Uddhav faction’s petition said that the issue of the disqualification of Shinde faction MLAs is still pending. In such a situation, the commission cannot decide who the real Shiv Sena is.
