Ahmedabad:: A Gujarat-based businessman allegedly misplaced ₹2.69 crore in a ‘sextortion’ lure, a police official mentioned on Thursday. The sufferer, who runs a renewable vitality firm, obtained a call on August 8 final yr from a lady who recognized herself as Ria Sharma from Morbi, he mentioned. “Later, she convinced him to take his clothes off during a video call. She then cut off the call abruptly and the victim was asked to pay ₹50,000 to have her naked music video not aired,” the supervisor mentioned.
“A few days later, the victim received a call from a man who claimed to be Inspector Guddu Sharma of Delhi Police. He extorted ₹3 lakh claiming the video clip was in his possession,” a- he added. On August 14, one other man who launched himself as a employees member of the Delhi Police cyber cell demanded ₹80.97 lakh, claiming that the lady had tried suicide, the official mentioned.
“He paid the cash. Then the sufferer received calls from a bogus CBI official who demanded ₹8.5 lakh to settle the matter after claiming that the lady’s mom had approached the central investigative company. He continued to pay cash till December 15 till a bogus Delhi High Court order that the case was dropped made him suspect,” mentioned the supervisor.
He then approached the Cyber Crime Branch police station on January 10 and filed a grievance in opposition to 11 people claiming to have extorted ₹2.69 crore, the official added.
The FIR was filed beneath Section 387 (Extortion), 170 (Impersonation as a Public Servant), 465 (False) 420 (Cheating) and 120-b (Conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, amongst different offences, the official knowledgeable. No one has been arrested in the case to date and an investigation is ongoing, he added.
