Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker and DMK chief M Appavu triggered controversy by attributing the state’s growth to Christians and that Tamil Nadu could be Bihar with out the Catholic Christians there.

Last month on June 28, Mr Appavu and DMK LMA Inigo Irudayaraj participated within the centenary celebrations of St Paul seminary in Tiruchirappalli.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Appavu mentioned, “Without Christian Fathers and Nuns, Tamil Nadu would be like Bihar. Catholic Fathers and Nuns have only helped me to grow to this position today. The Government of Tamil Nadu is your government. You created this government. Your prayers and fasting built this government. Catholic Christians and Christian fathers are the main cause of social justice and model of Dravidian government.”

“You (Catholic Christians) you don’t need to depend on anyone. You list out all your problems and give it directly to the Chief Minister. He won’t deny anything and will fix everything. Because the Chief Minister knows that you are the reason for this government . This is your government and your prime minister. I am with you here. If Christians are removed from Tamil Nadu, there will be no development. Catholic Christians are the main reason for the development of Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu is now built on you,” I mentioned.

Now Mr Appavu’s month-to-month speech has gone viral on social media. The BJP attacked the DMK and condemned the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker over the problem.

Tamil Nadu BJP state vp and spokesperson Narayanan took to social media and slammed Mr Appavu for his speech.

“Is this DMK’s Secularism? They have lost their claim to call themselves a secular party. Now this proves that DMK is an anti-Hindu party,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Appavu slammed the BJP for allegedly politicizing the problem.

“If BJP is publicizing my speech then that is a good thing. I will not say that I did not say that. Yes, I said that. But only trimmed versions are circulating on social media. Whatever I said is just history, there should be don’t be political about that,” Mr Appavu instructed ANI.
