Later that night, BJP State Chairman Sukanta Majumdar held a Ganga Aarti program in Babughat with out formal permission from Kolkata Police. The BJP had introduced that it could maintain a Ganga Aarti program on the event of the upcoming Gangasagar Mela in the state.

But Kolkata police refused permission, citing visitors jams on account of heavy car visitors and pilgrims arriving for the mela in the world and the continuing G20 summit in the northern fringes of the city.

As BJP supporters and employees gathered outdoors Babughat to watch this system, a scuffle ensued with the police.
