India is the third largest contributor to UN missions and has suffered the highest variety of casualties since 1948 when peacekeeping operations started.

The UN has undertaken 71 peacekeeping operations since 1948 and presently has nearly 75,000 personnel from 121 nations deployed in battle zones round the world – largely in Africa. The highest contributors to these missions are Bangladesh (6,693 personnel), Nepal (5,782) and India (5,581), in accordance to UN information, as at 30 April 2022.
